The Festival of Colors








Holi is one of the traditional festivals of India, celebrated on ‘Fagun mah ki Ekadashi’ (the first day of the first month of Indian calendar). So the reason of the celebration is quite clear-holi is the celebration of the first day of a New Year.

We celebrate this festival in the hope of a better tomorrow, to forget all bad memories of last year and to welcome New Year with colourful ‘Gulaal’,

Due to the popularity of this festival, it has been used by media many times, to show Indian culture in movies, TV shows, to connect to the audience.

But Print Media is using the basics of this festival in the context of political commentary.
The elementary concepts of the festival which are used for celebrating are now being used for parody.  We are seeing society, using its own constructs. In the hands if the media culture becomes a tool of looking back at culture. The concept of colors is lifted out of the concept of Holi and made into a joke. Gulaal becomes daag.
