The Festival of Colors

Holi is one of the traditional festivals of India, celebrated on ‘Fagun mah ki Ekadashi’ (the first day of the first month of Indian calendar). So the reason of the celebration is quite clear-holi is the celebration of the first day of a New Year.

We celebrate this festival in the hope of a better tomorrow, to forget all bad memories of last year and to welcome New Year with colourful ‘Gulaal’,

Due to the popularity of this festival, it has been used by media many times, to show Indian culture in movies, TV shows, to connect to the audience.

From the latest Movies:

Many Brands use this festival for promotions of their products like,

But Print Media is using the basics of this festival in the context of political commentary.
The elementary concepts of the festival which are used for celebrating are now being used for parody.  We are seeing society, using its own constructs. In the hands if the media culture becomes a tool of looking back at culture. The concept of colors is lifted out of the concept of Holi and made into a joke. Gulaal becomes daag.

Colors can also get politicized. Election victories are celebrated with Gulal. The concept of new beginning is used by the politicians

And this is actually a good way of discussing the scenarios with light hearten jokes and accepting the ills of society. This tone of light hearten banter is perfectly in keeping with the mood of the festival as well.

‘Bura na mano holi hai’ was a harmless taunt while applying colors but here it is being use as a harmless yet noticeable taunt for political commentary.

Some times it is exact mirror of  our society.

Holi is influencing news channels in many ways, they make joke of it, and say 'bura na mano holi hai' conduct 'Kavi Summelon' , where poets criticize politicians through poems.

It has become a trend to know who's Holi was the best, the one organised by Mr. Rahul Gandhi or Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav or M.r Lal Krishan Adwani.

The literal meaning of Holi is still same, but meaning of colors have been modified, some times its clear, some times its not.
